TOM'S INVENTORY FOR SALE
1950 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 2-Door
1949 was the start of a huge deal in Oldsmobile history. It was the first year of the famous overhead valve “Rocket 88” V-8 engine and that engine made these Oldsmobiles the fastest American production cars of their time. Some say it was the beginning of muscle cars, and an Olds was the Indy Pace Car that year. With only a few trim changes, Oldsmobile soldiered on in ’50. This combination was a terror in Nascar as they won 10 of the 19 races in 1950 and an 88 won the inaugural Carrera Panamericana in 1950.
This 1950 example with the 303ci, 135HP overhead valve Rocket 88 V-8 is pretty much a survivor that reportedly spent the majority of its life in dry New Mexico and most recently has been in a museum in Pennsylvania. It is correctly finished in Almond Green with Nankeen Green wheels with good original interior. Although selling “exempt”, the miles at 56K are believed to be actual and the condition of the car documents that. Body is very solid and the chrome and glass is exceptional. The car has wide whitewall radial tires and a spot light on the driver side. Rocket 88 V-8 engine with standard 3-Speed transmission and dual exhaust. This hard-to-find car starts, runs, and drives very well and it is ready for cruise night in your town…
